Microscopy Classrooms
The College of Microscopy’s classrooms are equipped with the very latest microscopes and teaching equipment, including research grade stereomicroscopes along with state-of-the-art polarized light, fluorescence, and biological microscopes.
Many of the Special Applications courses offered at the College start by stressing the importance of sample preparation and spend the first day teaching students how to properly use a stereomicroscope. These courses continue with use of the polarized light microscope and its application to a specific topic such as, pharmaceuticals, forensics, or art conservation.
The College of Microscopy offers a variety of courses devoted to the application of sample preparation and small particle handling. Our Sample Preparation courses start out teaching students how to construct special micro manipulation tools and then the students go onto to use those tools to isolate and manipulate small particles for analysis during the course. The College has an entire sample preparation classroom and laboratory specially designed to maximize the student’s learning experience.
The College of Microscopy also offers introductory courses in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) using the latest JEOL electron microscopes. Students benefit greatly from the hands-on experience they receive while working with instructors who have real-world experience. Many of our instructors are McCrone Associates staff members who solve tough particle identification problems on a daily basis.
